Siberia
Siberia makes up nearly the entire northern continent of Asia. Siberia’s land mass is over 5.1 million square miles and makes up nearly 78% of the total nation of Russia. At this size, Siberia makes up nearly 10 percent of the entire earth’s land mass. Siberia is extremely rich in natural resources, particularly minerals including gold, diamonds, zinc and lead.
Siberia is commonly linked to being the coldest place on earth. However, due to the sheer size of Siberia proper, that is a misnomer. The northern and eastern part of Siberia is the coldest (the area north of the Arctic) and has a one month summer period. In the largest city of Siberia, Novosibirsk, the average low in January is negative four. But most of the population of Siberia lives in the southern portion of the area, and lives with moderate temperatures and about four months of summer. This part of Siberia does have a consistent growing season, and can yield crops.
